The cats love sitting in the open windows. They take a peek first and then jump for it. We have screens so they can't escape. Onyx is even cuter when she peeks because she is shorter than Kes.

Ready for a cook out? No summer cook out will be complete without this hamburger cake. This was such a hilarious find while grocery shopping this morning. I'm definitely looking into getting one for a our house warming party. It's hard to resist.

Ice Cream van

I heard the ice cream van come up the road and I quickly dashed for the camera. I took this shot out the kitchen window. He plays music while the other ice cream van just rings a bell and speeds through the neighborhood likes it's freakin' NASCAR.

I completed another wood item today. This cute bench is kid size and many different tints and shades of pink. It turned out pretty cute.

After chipping off more loose paint I found this little bit of math written directly on the plaster wall. Later we removed some of the ply wood that was in the places where the radiators used to be and Dave discovered an old match book. The match book was made for the Red Feather Campaign to sell for fund raisin. I couldn't decide on which picture so I posted both.

We started by pulling up the carpet by the front door since it interferes with opening & closing. We saw the wood was in decent shape and decided to peek under the carpet in the living room. We went for it and took up all the carpet. I'm loving it!

Party Time

I had a party of 15 kids today. We decorated beach bags. They had a blast and so did I as usual.

Nin - Ja!

I spent the afternoon with a friend and her nephew. I was hoping to get a picture of his hot chocolate mustache and goatee but he wiped his face clean before I could get that. So here we have Ninja Casey for the world to see.

Class of '07

The Newington high school class of 2007 will be graduating tomorrow. I've seen them refer to themselves as double-o-7. Those crazy kids!

High school seems like a life time ago.

Grilled pork chops coated is a bbq sauce with grilled peppers & onions. Meat is always so deliciously juicy when cooked on the grill. Dining outside is always a plus too. We took a nice walk to the park after dinner and grabbed an ice cream at 7-11. A great way to end a busy day of spackling in the living room only to realize we need professionals.

I awoke to find Onyx on the bed with me and Kes in her bed. Kes is almost always in her bed when I go to sleep and when I wake up, while Onyx wanders around. Onyx is a bed kitty though and she always sleeps on my side. She's a big bed hog and needs several pushes before she even moves.

We seem to have a big rainstorm/thunderstorm every afternoon. Today's thunderstorm threatened to shut off the power in the middle of the birthday party I was hosting at Michaels. I was a bit unsure of what I would do if the power went out during the party with a classroom full of scared 8 year olds. I drove in the rainstorm and got home to a sparkling green backyard. Refreshing.

Napkin rings

Dave and I were at a furniture store checking out couches and I saw this creative use of soup labels for napkin rings in the kitchen set area. Pretty clever. They also had fake food scattered all over the store, from beers to waffles. I had more fun looking at those than the furniture.

Kitty Mauw

Not exactly a quiet day today but everything I wanted a picture of ended before I got the camera out. So here is Kes. I wanted to get a picture of her using her ramp scratching board - her 'celebratory cat scratch' - when I got home from work at 9:45pm. Sadly she finished before I got the camera out and wouldn't do a repeat performance.

Quiet day

I had the day off today. It was pretty chilly and it threatened to rain but never did. I was pretty certain it would rain when the wind picked up but it just stayed dreary, cold and overcast.

Groovy Pooch

While at the gas station I spotted this groovy pooch rockin' out to some tunes on his portable headphone radio. He was looking so happy sitting in the car I couldn't resist the photo. I had to mess around with the contrast so you could really see him; too many reflections in the window.

Dairy Queen

Today was the last day I could use my birthday coupon from Dairy Queen for buy one get one free Blizzards. When we moved to Middletown last March I decided to sign up for the Blizzard fan club because there was a DQ 5 mins from our apartment. I get coupons every so often. There is no DQ in Waterbury as far as I know but there is one right near work. So I asked around to see if anyone was up for my free Blizzard and then braved the rainstorm to get them. Mine was mostly melted by the time I got home but it was still good - chocochip cookie dough.

My friend

After yesterday's free family event and later a party I was feeling pretty beat up. The party just made me tired because we got home around 4am. The free event involved me carrying a 4 foot long table alone and 10 foot table with some help. I felt the affects of the 4 ft table half way through the event (~2 hours later) and knew that I shouldn't have done it alone. Today I moved around slowly and painfully; both hips, shoulders and back aching. We grabbed some naproxin at Stop & Shop since it is most effective on that kind of pain. Wasn't too much of an improvement though.

Free Family event

(Late entry for June 9)

We had a 'hatching party'; a free event sponsored by Klutz and their line of Chicken Socks books. To translate, Klutz makes craft books for kids and Chicken Socks is the book series geared for kids ages 4 and up. I figured I'd go with the chicken theme and invite kids to draw farm animals on a mural. I started them off with a barn and a tractor. I only sent a couple kids to the classroom to do the mural because I was left doing the event alone since my helper had injured herself.

This is a fountain infront of some important building in Newington. The two wheels spin as the spouts spray water onto them.

Old McDonald had a farm

I finished painting the barn themed birdhouse at work. Good fun using the crackle with the red paint and then making the roof look like tin. The roof is actually a corrugated cardboard card that I cut to size.

I've been getting stuff done steadily for the big inspection next week but customers are throwing in a monkey wrench. I had one birdhouse on the shelf for a whole day and half and today some nuns bought it. Now I have to paint another one of that style.

Backyard Wildlife

We cat-proofed the yard in May and now the cats get to spend a supervised hour or so in the yard each day. Onyx loves it. Today she had been in the yard for about 10 minutes and I glanced up from my lunch to discover she'd caught herself a butterfly. She was carrying it around and munching on it. When I approached her to see if I could get the butterfly away she got a bit protective of her catch. After the picture she promptly ate it. She must have been hungry because she ate two ther bugs as well. Yuck.

Breakfast of champions

I love breakfast. I love cereal. We were all out of cereal and milk for over a week. I had eaten all the Pop-Tarts and waffles I could stand. I was so happy this morning when I realized that I would be having cereal for breakfast. Looking at it now I'm thinking I may have cereal for dinner. Yum.

And yes, my kitchen really is that blue... We're saving for a brand new kitchen, the blue has got to go!

Eat yer veggies

We had some veggies as a side for our grilled dinner. Onyx is always eagerly awaiting any food that may find its way to the floor. She loves veggies, especially green beans. If you give her a plate of mix veggies it's guaranteed that the green beans will be gone. The funny thing is that she always behaves as though she has to steal the food although we give the food to her on a plate or in her food bowl.
